Artist Statement
I often discover characters and landscapes in my textured surfaces as I begin painting. Similar to an author, my interpretation changes as my objects develop their own voice.
Acrylic paint is my primary medium. Using my own recipes and methods, I texture my painting surfaces. These surfaces encourage imperfections, allow many layers of color, and mimic soft pastel mark making.
I am influenced by Fauvism, German Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and indigenous art. My paintings have been compared to Naïve or Primitive art because I build intuitive, imaginary themes where color, not perspective, describes the narrative.
